Parking garage near the Idaho State Capitol in Boise, Idaho.
This design-build parking garage includes 580 parking spaces on 5 ½ levels. The 181,731 SF cast in place concrete structure was built on a compact site. It borders a designated historic district on one side, the Capitol Mall on another, and is the location of a geothermal well that provides steam heat to the Capitol and other state office buildings. To blend into its surroundings, the garage is set back half a block from the historic district to the north, and focuses pedestrian & vehicular traffic toward the state office buildings to the south. The color and materials of the structure are similar to those used on existing state buildings and the garage’s mass is tapered to present a low face to the residential area and guide the eye up to the Capitol dome.
